Equal Opportunity...

Tuesday August 26, 2008
A report came out recently suggesting that the reason that female condoms aren't more popular has very little to do with women and a lot to do with policy makers. Women, in general, quite like the female condom, some of them even preferring it to the male condom, but because it is both more expensive, harder to find, and rarely promoted, few seek it out or use it. Could this change in the future? Perhaps. A decent financial investment by governments and NGOs might encourage competition in the marketplace, which could bring down costs and encourage female condom use. It's an important goal. The female condom is the only female controlled contraceptive method that can reduce the risk of infection with STDs.
