Asking the Right Questions...
Tuesday October 7, 2008
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recently put out a series of guidelines recommending that physicians specifically ask their patients about what non-coital sexual activity they're engaging in. In other words, they're telling doctors that they need to specifically ask their patients not only if they're having "sex" (i.e. vaginal intercourse), but whether or not they're engaging in other sexual activities such as oral sex, anal sex, and mutual masturbation. I think it's wonderful that a major medical organization is finally making a push to get doctors to have frank, honest, conversations with their patients about sex, and even better that the statement specifically addresses the sexual health of lesbians and bisexual women.
