Follow me on:

Last Wednesday, Merck submitted information to the FDA that will hopefully help facilitate the approval of the HPV vaccine Gardasil for use in older women. Although women over the age of 25 in the U.S. have generally been able to get the vaccine if they are sneaky and persistent enough, it would be great if their use became legitimized. Not only would it save them a lot of money, since the vaccine would presumably then become covered by insurance, it would expand access to a much larger group of individuals who want to protect themselves from the two main types of HPV that cause cervical cancer and genital warts. I already wheedled my doctor into giving me the vaccine, and paid out the nose for it, but it's not too late to help the many women who wanted the shot but were content to wait.
