Price:

Latex condoms come in a variety of styles and, as such, in a variety of prices. However, in general, latex condoms are cheaper than polyurethane or polyisoprene condoms.

Ease of Acquisition:

A variety of latex condoms are available at most drug stores, and an even bigger selection can be purchased online or at stores that specialize in sex toys and sex supplies.

Use During Vaginal Intercourse:

Latex condoms are the condoms most often recommended for STD protection during vaginal intercourse.

Use During Oral Sex:

Unlubricated or flavored condoms are a good way to make your oral sex safer. Lubricated latex condoms are safe, but they may have an unpleasant taste or feeling on your tongue.

Use During Anal Sex:

Latex condoms, combined with a good water or silicone-based lubricant, are a good way to reduce the risks associated with anal sex.

The Verdict:

Latex condoms are, right now, the best way to protect yourself against sexually transmitted diseases, if you are going to have sex. They have been shown to be an effective way of preventing HIV and other STDs that are transmitted via bodily fluids, and they can also reduce the risk of diseases spread skin-to-skin such as genital herpes. They come in many varieties -- with and without lubricant, colored, and even flavored -- and they are widely available at low cost. Sometimes you can even find them for free!
