An outbreak of herpes sores on a child's face. Similar blisters appear on the genitals during a genital herpes outbreak.

Cold sores are small painful blisters that are most often found around the lips. They usually break open, crust over, and heal over the period of a week to 10 days.

Although many people do not refer to them that way, cold sores are actually oral herpes. They can be transmitted to a partner's mouth through kissing or to their genitals during oral sex. Yes, it's true. If you have oral herpes, you can give someone genital herpes by performing unprotected oral sex on them.
