Trachoma

Definition: A type of eye infection resulting from exposure to Chlamydia trachomatis. Trachoma is the leading cause of preventable blindness worldwide. In the U.S., babies are routinely treated with silver nitrate or antibiotic eye drops at birth to prevent chlamydial eye diseases.
