Answer:

How Common is It?
Approximately 5% of pregnant women in the U.S. are infected with chlamydia.

Effect on Pregnancy Outcome:
Chlamydia infection is associated with an increased rate of preterm birth. It is also associated with eye infection and pneumonia in infants.

Screening Recommendation:
All pregnant women should be screened at their first prenatal visit, and if they’re positive should be retested 3 weeks after treatment. Women should be tested again in their third trimester if they are under 25 or otherwise at high risk of chlamydia.

Treatment:
Treatment is done with antibiotics.
