House Rules

Saturday May 17, 2008
The Minnesota state house of representatives recently passed a bill requiring age appropriate family life and sex education for junior high and high school students. A lot of parents and activists are up in arms about the decision, but the legislator quoted in the article has it right on the money. Students are going to be having sex whether they're taught about it or not. The only way to reduce teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases is to teach them how to choose to have sex safely. The other benefit of doing so? Good sex education programs not only empower students to say yes, they empower them to say no. That should comfort even the most conservative educators.
